Frequently Asked Questions
Do you provide regular, ongoing appointments?
At this stage, I don’t have the capacity to support individuals on an ongoing basis. However, I see how great the need is- I’m keen to provide a high level of support in whatever capacity is required on a short term basis. Whether that is through providing communication partner training, assistive technology applications, visual supports or all of the above!
What is AAC?
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It refers to any form of communication that replaces or supplements verbal speech. This can include no-tech AAC (e.g. key word sign), low-tech AAC (e.g. PODD books) or high-tech AAC (electronic communication devices).
What is gestalt language processing?
Analytic language development and gestalt language development are two ways to process and develop language. Analytic language development is sometimes considered the ‘standard’ way of developing language- individuals learn and process single words first, before learning to combine them. Alternatively, gestalt language processors begin by processing whole chunks/ phrases before being able to distinguish individual words. Autistic individuals are often gestalt language processors.
Does using AAC inhibit verbal speech development?
Many people worry that AAC will prevent a user from developing verbal speech. However, research actually shows us that AAC often supports speech development. It also can assist with literacy development. AAC can be used whilst still working towards speech goals!
Do you accept NDIS funding?
We accept payments through NDIS for self-managed or plan managed participants. Invoices can be sent directly to plan managers.
